Handheld Communicator Does Not Communicate to Hart Field Device
Part number:

QUESTION:

The HFM communicates to my Hart field device but my handheld communicator does not.  Why?  How do I communicate using the Handheld?

ANSWER:

The communications loss is likely a result of the high preambles necessary to communicate to the slave device.  To use the Handheld Communicator, temporarily lower the Fieldbus Timeout value to the default value of 256 while using the Handheld and then change it back to the required setting when finished using the Handheld.  Typically, slave devices require a higher timeout to communicate.  If you neglect to change the timeout value back to the required setting, the Handheld will continue to communicate to the Hart field device but the HFM will not communicate.  The Fieldbus Timeout values are FB_01_Timeout through FB_16_Timeout under HFM module scope parameters.
