Notes on WinCC Web Server V1.x

  • If the server is being used as a standalone computer and is only installed as server because of the WinCC/Web Navigator client, then please do a customized installation of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and do not install the "Domain Controller" option.
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)
The IIS is contained on the Microsoft Windows 2000 CD. It is installed automatically in Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. In the case of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, you have to install the IIS afterwards by way of "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Software > Add/Remove Windows Components".
You can install the IIS in Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with the 5-language Option Pack CD supplied.
  • If the server is being used as a standalone computer and is only installed as server because of the WinCC/Web Navigator client, then please do a customized installation of Windows 2000 and do not install the "File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Server" and "SMTP Service" options.

Notes on WinCC Web Client V6.x and V7.x

  • You must disable the Windows firewall in Windows XP SP2 on Web Clients with WinCC Basic system V6.0 SP3, V6.0 SP4 or WinCC File Server.
  • Using the MSI technology when installing the Web Client means that the "MS Installer" service is required on the target computer. However, this is not available in Windows NT V4.0. You can install the service via the "instmsiw.exe" file on the "Web Navigator" product CD.
  • Access to intranet / Internet or TCP/IP connection to the Web Server

    Note
Make sure that you protect the computer with other mechanisms against unauthorized access.
  • In order to use more than 3 clients, you must install the server version Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003, because the workstation version is limited to three clients.
  • Access to intranet / Internet or TCP/IP connection to the Web client
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS):
The IIS is on the Microsoft Windows 2000 CD. It is installed automatically in Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. In the case of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, you have to install the IIS afterwards by way of "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Software > Add/Remove Windows Components".

    - A network-compatible computer and a LAN connection (LAN = Local Area Network).
    - A system for name resolution, the computer name resolved in IP addresses (IP = Internet Protocol). This step is not mandatory, but it permits you to use "alias names" instead of IP addresses for the connection with your server.
  • If you wish to have the information published in the Internet, you need the following:
    - An internet connection and an IP address from your internet service provider (ISP). You can only publish in the internet if you have a connection to the internet that is provided to you by the internet service provider.
    - A network card that supports the connection with the internet.
    - A DNS registration (DNS = Domain Name System) for your IP address. This step is not mandatory, but it permits you to use "alias names" instead of IP addresses for the connection with your server.
