The new S7-400H controllers including PROFINET support are herewith released for delivery.

In addition to the integration of PROFINET interfaces, the range of CPUs has been expanded by the new CPU 416-5H. The following innovations have also been introduced:
- Larger quantity structure for data and function blocks
- Larger memory and higher performance
- Enhanced communication performance and resources
- Additional new functions

S7-400H Innovations

The fault-tolerant SIMATIC S7-400H controllers have been innovated.

This includes:

• Integrated PROFINET interface ( 2-port switch) in all CPUs
• Larger quantity structure for data and function blocks and larger memory (alignment with the quantity structures of the standard CPUs S7-400 V6)
• Enhanced communication performance and resources
• New CPU 416-5H PN/DP in addition to CPUs 412/414/417-5H PN/DP
• Support of H connections via TCP/IP (ISO on TCP)
• Support of T communication (OUC connections)
• Integrated Profibus interface as data record gateway
• User-programmable Master-Standby changeover

All controllers including the CPU 412-5H PN/DP have a MPI/DP and a DP interface, as well as a PROFINET interface with integral 2-port switch. The latter can be used for the system-redundant connection of the I/Os, or, if the I/Os are connected via PROFIBUS, for the plant communication. All CPUs including the CPU 412-5H PN/DP support data synchronization via fiber-optic conductors up to 10 km. Programming and configuration is as before in the SIMATIC STEP 7 engineering environment (STEP 7 V5.5 SP2).

Sync modules and FOC sync cables

The sync modules have also been newly designed and are not compatible with the old modules. The FOC sync cables have not changed.

Compatibility

The new S7-400H controllers are based on a new hardware and the new operating system V6.0. The previous hardware cannot be upgraded and the V6.0 operating system will only run on the new hardware.

The new CPUs are largely compatible with the previous H-CPUs:

- Applications created for the previous CPUs can also be used for the new CPUs.

- In the case of a spare part replacement both CPUs of the H system including their sync modules must be replaced. If the upgrade is from V4 or V4.5 to V6, the Sync cables can be re-used.

Mixing the new CPUs with the previous CPUs in one S7-400H system is not permitted. Existing plant configurations with V4.x can be expanded with new redundancy systems with new V6 systems.

Engineering

To be able to use the new functions you require STEP7 V5.5 SP2 plus HF1 or later versions STEP 7  . The required Hotfix 1 can be downloaded at entry ID 59216386.

Supported PROFINET I/Os

At the time of delivery release, ET 200M stations are supported via the IM 153-4 High Feature (6ES7153-4BA00-0XB0). A new IM firmware is required for operation with the S7-400H; it is available for download at entry ID 26331274. Previous versions can be upgraded.

The new firmware has the new PROFINET function "System Redundancy" implemented, which is required for operation with the 400H. Other PN devices which do not support System Redundancy can be connected as "Onesided I/Os", i.e. allocated to only one of the two CPUs. Other PN devices that already support System Redundancy can be integrated via a suitable GSD file.

Safety

As was the case with the previous S7-400H versions, the new version can also be used as F/FH system. This requires the F Systems V6.1 + SP1 software and Lib V1.3 + SP1, S7 F Configuration Pack V5.5 + SP9 + Update1

PCS7

The V6 H-CPUs can be used with PCS 7 V8.0 Update 1 and higher. Update 1 will be released for delivery by end of April 2012 and will include the necessary additions.

Replacement strategy

The new product spectrum will completely replace the existing products. The current CPUs V4.5 will be declared mature products after approx 6 months and type discontinued one year later. As usual for SIMATIC, the CPUs will remain available for 9 more years on a spare part basis.
