QUESTION:
How can safe muting of electro-sensitive protective equipment be implemented for unhindered material transport in hazardous zones?
ANSWER:
Material is conveyed by means of optically secured protective fields using the "muting" function. The general requirements applicable to muting are defined in the standard EN 61496-1. In practice, three different muting types are used.
These are:
§ 2-sensor parallel muting
§ 4-sensor parallel muting
§ 4-sensor sequential muting.
Sensors detect the material and suppress the protective safety function for a defined time. When the conveyed material has passed the light curtain, the protective equipment becomes active again. The MSS Advanced 3RK3 has off-the-shelf logic blocks with which the muting functions can be implemented. The MSS Advanced reads in the signals of the light curtain, barrier, array and muting sensors, and monitors their muting.
