Problem With the current increase in the degree of
networking within the automation business, there is an increasing
demand to exchange messages across the borders of different local
networks (LANs).
Solution
E-mails which are being sent by means of the SMTP protocol offer a
quick, cheap and reliable method to transfer messages
worldwide.Furthermore, e-mail can be sent employing existing
infrastructute (Internet).
By means of the function block FB 490, all
S7-300/400 CPUs, ET200S/IM151 distributed I/Os, ET200PRO/ IM 154-8
CPUs and WinAC computers like the SIMATIC Microbox PCs, can send
e-mails to any SMTP server. The dispatch ofthe messages can be
triggered depending on arbitrary system events (variable states,
faults, expiration of timers). In mail attachments, up to 64kByte
of binary data may be transmitted. For secure authentication, the
well-established SMTP-AUTH protocol is employed.
