PROBLEM:
Service life of the print head and what
are the points to be noted?
ANSWER:
The print head of printers DR215/216/235/236-N is an expendable
item!
The service life of the print head is about 300 million strokes
per pin.
However, the service life is greatly reduced if, for example,
- the ribbon is repeatedly reused (refilling)
- original manufacturer ribbons are not used
- paper is used that doesn't comply with the paper
specifications.
Various steps have been taken to ensure the longest
possible service life of the print head. For instance, the printing
speed is reduced automatically when the print head reaches a certain
temperature. Once it has cooled down again, the printer resumes
high-speed printing.
Such high temperatures (the internal print head temperature can
rise to over 120°C) occur under extreme printing conditions
such as the printing of large black areas over long periods of
time. In order to avoid overheating, each spool of the 9 or 24
electromagnets is monitored. If a spool reaches the temperature
of 120°C, corresponding to a housing temperature of 80°C,
then the printer slows down etc. as described above.
