How can you determine the "E-Stand" (hardware release) of an operator panel?
Description The "E-Stand" (product release) identifies products with the same order number but with changes compared with the version as delivered. These can be upwardly compatible enhancement of functions or the use of new components. The "E-Stand" of an operator panel is given on the rating plate (on the back of the operator panel). There are two different types of rating plate depending on the operator panel:
Fig. 01: Operator panel with "E-Stand" 1
Fig. 02: Operator panel with "E-Stand" 3
Note
The X stands for the first figure in a series and at the same time identifies the "E-Stand". In the figure X, 4, 5, 6, the X stands for the number 3 and thus means "E-Stand" 3.
Explanation of the calculation
With SIMATIC HMI operator panels the power dissipation is only insignificantly less than the power consumption. The values listed below for power consumption are therefore almost identical to the maximum and minimum power dissipation.
Note that these values change when IO devices (a USB mouse, for example) are connected to the operator panel. Please refer to the relevant device manuals for the power consumption of the various interfaces and the permissible range of the rated voltage.

What connections are there between the version designations in WinCC flexible?
Description
Through the introduction of different new operator panels and configuration software, only specific versions of the software can be used to configure the operator panels.
Configuration of the operator panels also depends on the edition of the Engineering Software. For example, the MP377 can be configured as from WinCC flexible 2008 and only with the Standard or Advanced edition of WinCC flexible.
Fig. 01
Configuration Notes When creating a project or changing the type of operator panel in WinCC flexible 2005 and higher, you can specify the default (current) version of the operator panel (specify the version of the operator panel).
By way of example, Fig. 02 shows an MP370 Touch version 7.1.0.0 selected for WinCC flexible 2005.
Fig. 02
Attachment 1 lists the associated versions for WinCC flexible.
The table is designed to help you identify the versions used and thus avoid version conflicts.
Notes
The following notes also apply for older versions of WinCC flexible.
Generator, Runtime and Simulation in WinCC flexible 2008 can only be started if the new operator panel versions are set for WinCC flexible 2008.
Please refer to the relevant manual for how to read out the version of your operator panel.
If you use WinCC flexible 2008 to open an older project that was last saved in WinCC flexible 2007, the operator panel version is automatically changed to the current version. Information on an update of the operator panel or a PC station is available in Entry ID: 19701610.

Why is an Open Source CD supplied with the operator panel?
An Open Source CD is supplied with some operator panels? Open source software is used to a certain extent in these devices.
Open Source
The source text of Open Source Software is freely accessible and should be in a human-readable form.
A CD containing this source text is thus supplied with the operator panels concerned.
The SIMATIC Panels' operating system consists also of self-developed components and therefore cannot be adapted to your own applications.

What support does Siemens AG offer to make products comply with FDA regulations?
The FDA is the USA authority for licensing drugs and is under the Ministry of Health. The FDA was founded in 1927 with headquarters in Rockville (Maryland).
The FDA's task is to protect public health in the USA. It regulates the safety and effectiveness of human and animal pharmaceuticals, biological products, medical products, food and radiating devices. The regulations apply to products produced in the USA and imported products.
The FDA is comparable in Germany with the TÜV and Ministry of Health.
Important regulation for Siemens AG products On August 20, 1997, the FDA's rule 21 CFR Part 11 on electronic records and signatures came into force. 21 CFR Part 11 (in brief: Part 11) defines the acceptance criteria of the FDA for the use of electronic records and signatures instead of drawings in paper form and handwritten signatures on paper.
