A new option is now available for the SIMATIC Rack PC 547B: the new Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit) operating system, MUI (Multilingual User Interface), 5 languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish). All new Windows Vista functions are thus available with more performance and reliability for industrial use as well.

Windows Vista Ultimate includes all the functions of Windows Vista Home Premium, as well as of Windows Vista Business, including company network functions, centralized administration tools and enhanced features for system safety. New safety and data functions in Windows Vista Ultimate guarantee even higher reliability.
One very important feature of Windows Vista Ultimate is its MUI functionality (MUI = Multilingual User Interface), which provides a translated version of the user desktop. In the case of SIMATIC PCs, the Vista Ultimate operating system is provided in 5 languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish). Changing over between languages is as easy as login or logoff of Windows Vista. An advantage of MUI is that PCs can be started up in one language, for instance, and switched to the language of the country of destination prior to shipment. Without MUI, a new Windows operating system with suitable language would have to be installed, with additional costs for the new Windows license.

SIMATIC PCs use a Windows Vista Ultimate "OEM Embedded License", the same as with our other Microsoft operating system options. This form of licensing provides the following benefits to our customers:

• Windows Vista is installed on the SIMATIC PC ready for operation. "Commissioning" only requires entering the name of the licensee, after which the system will immediately startup. This form of delivery is very convenient for the customer and helps to save time (approx. 1 hour compared to a new installation with a Windows Vista Ultimate operating system DVD)
• No laborious operating system enabling with Microsoft:
  • No activation required – pre-activated in the pre-loading
  • No renewed activation even after a new installation from the Recovery DVD
• If required, the included Restore DVD enables restoration of the delivery status on the hard disk. In line with our OEM embedded license agreement, the Restore DVD will only run on a SIMATIC Rack PC 547B.
• Proof of license at the customer’s site is easy: A COA label (Certificate of Authenticity) on the PC provides proof of license. No further software CDs or documents are required
• Long operating system availability, even when the operating system is discontinued by Microsoft
