64-Channel Modules for S7-300 Released for Delivery
Part number:
Summary Internet document

The new 64-channel modules and accessories for S7-300 have been released for delivery.

Internet document Summary

The new modules supplement the existing product range of SIMATIC S7-300 and further round off the system at the upper end. The attractivity of the S7-300 and ET 200M is thus further increased. The modules can be used both in central configurations with S7-300 CPUs, as well as in distributed configurations with ET 200M interface modules. Due to their high channel density they permit a very compact and space-saving station design.

Overview of the benefits:

·         Compared to a conventional solution with two 32-channel modules, the new module provides a cost saving of approx. 16% to 18% on the list price. This calculation includes the required connectors and cables.

·         The higher channel density results in further cost savings, because significantly more channels can be operated behind the header module (CPU or IM) than up to now. Fewer CPUs or IMs are thus required. In the case of IMs (ET 200M), the reduction of connectors and cables results in a further savings potential. In this context we also wish to point out the new IM153-4 PN IO, that enables up to 12 modules to be operated in one station (see entry ID !25325089 !). In total up to 768 digital channels can thus be operated in a ET 200M distributed configuration.

·         The module width of only 40mm (single-width S7-300 module) additionally saves switchboard space.

·         Pre-manufactured cables permit simple and quick connection to the terminal blocks and avoid wiring errors. The connecting cables are available in different lengths, so that the terminal blocks can be mounted in any desired place in the switchboard. This can also result in a further space optimization.

·         The 64-channel digital input module is of universal design. It can be operated both sinking and sourcing (p and m reading). The operating mode can be set per channel group and is determined by the wiring.

·         In view of the fact that the same accessories (cables, terminal blocks) can be used for digital input and output modules, spare part keeping is further simplified.

Typical applications:

·         The new modules can be used wherever a large number of digital signals have to be collected or output at a cost-effective price. The modules have been optimized with respect to price and space.

·         One application example is machines used for semi-conductor manufacturing. These machines are often used in clean rooms. The floor space in such rooms is very expensive, so that it is important to build as small as possible. The machine controls should not enlarge the mechanics of the machine unnecessarily. There is no space for additional cubicles or terminal boxes, and the components are mounted wherever there is some free space.

·         Onother application example is power generation and distribution. Very often coupling relays are used with a low driving current (typ. 0.1A), but with a large no. of signals. The 64-channel output module is ideally suited for this type of application. With its output current of 0.3A per channel it has sufficient reserve.

·         In large plants the status of automatic circuit breakers is often monitored to be able to respond fast if a breaker trips. The 64-channel input module is a cost-effective solution here.

·         The three new modules also cover the requirements of the Asian markets for m-reading and m-switching (current sinking) modules. The 6ES7 322-1BP50-0AA0 is thus the first S7-300 module to fulfil m-switching requirements. Solutions provided in the past with relay modules ("floating switch"), can now be covered at 24V DC with an  electronic module with no wear and tear of the relay contacts.

This module has the same technical data as the p-switching module. It differs only in the way it is connected to the process signals.

More information on the topic of p /m reading and p /m –switching is available from the brochure (German and English): p_m_wiring ( 50 KB ) ( 50 KB )

The comprehensive technical data are available from the Product Information:

64 DI,  24V DC, p-m reading: entry ID (25676826)

64 DO, 24V, 0.3A DC, p writing: entry ID (25685439)

64 DO, 24V, 0.3A DC, m writing: entry ID (25685157)

Application:

The new modules can be used both in central configurations with S7-300 CPUs, as well as in distributed configurations with ET 200M interface modules. As from what product release of the CPU or IM153 this is possible is described in the Product Information.

Configuration:

Configuration is with STEP7. You require the HSP2019 in version V1.0 for this purpose. It is included in STEP7 as from version V5.4, SP2. The HSP can be installed as from STEP7 V5.4. If the modules are used in a non-Siemens system via PROFIBUS DP or PROFINET in a ET 200M, suitable GSD files are available. You can download them free of charge from the Internet under the entry IDs:

PROFIBUS DP: entry ID 113498

PROFINET: entry ID 25057900

Note:

Please note that in the case of a central configuration in a S7-300 CPU the so-called default startup is not supported, due to the quantity framework of the module. This means that you must always configure the modules with STEP7 and allocate valid addresses! In this context please also note the corresponding hints in the Product Information.
