How do you store licenses on a server and protect them from unauthorized access?
Part number:

Description
With the Automation License Manager ("ALM" V3.0) you can manage the floating license online. The license keys are stored on a central computer that serves as server computer. The SIMATIC Logon add-on package must also be installed. Using Logon you can conveniently control the use of your licenses on the local computer or on computers in a workgroup. Unauthorized access to licenses is prevented by a logon dialog and user administration. If there is no corresponding license available locally, you can use the license from the license key server. If there is a connection failure to the server you can continue working for three hours without any problems. After three hours you get the message that there is no license key available on the computer. In addition, the ALM on the server reserves the license for the computer for three hours in the case of power failure. If the connection is not restored after three hours, the Automation License Manager releases the license again for every user.

License Key in the Network

Advantages:

  • Central storage of the license keys on one server
  • Automatic assignment and release of the keys
  • Central management (e.g. upgrades etc.)
  • Central logging of the license key activities
  • Improved protection against loss of licenses

In the instructions below the server is the computer that makes the licenses available. And the client is the computer that uses the licenses from the server.
No. Procedure
1

Enable remote access for the license keys on the the license server via the ALM under "File > Settings".
