Instructions When a SIMATIC IPC starts up, you are asked which user name you want to use to log on to the system. This interrupts the automatic startup, which is undesirable, for example, after a power failure. We recommend setting up auto logon as a remedy.
Setting up auto logon The table below describes how to set up auto logon in various Windows operating systems on a SIMATIC IPC.
| No. |
Procedure |
| 1 |
In Windows XP you open the Run dialog via "Start > Run.
When using Windows 7, you open the Run dialog via "Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run" |
| 2 |
Enter the "control userpasswords2" command in Windows XP / XP embedded / Windows embedded 2009 / Server 2003 / Vista or Windows 7.
In Microsoft Windows 2000, you use the "control userpasswords" command instead.

Confirm with OK. The "User Accounts" dialog opens. |

In the "Users" tab in the "User Accounts" dialog, you mark the relevant "User Name" (S_User, for example) and disable the function

Then click the "Apply" button. The "Automatically Log On" dialog opens. Here you enter the password for the user name selected in the fields "Password:" and "Confirm Password:" and confirm with OK. |
| 5 |
Click on "OK" to close the "User Accounts" dialog.
Auto logon has now been set up. After a restart or reboot of the SIMATIC IPC, the Windows logon is executed automatically and you can start using your application immediately. |
Notes
-
You must disable the Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) before making changes in Windows embedded operating systems.
-
This method has the advantage that you avoid direct editing of the Windows Registry database and the password is stored in coded form.
-
The "Automatically Log On" window then opens only when you click on the "Apply" or "OK" button if the option check box "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" has been disabled just before.
-
If automatic logon is already configured, but you still want to make changes, then check the option check box "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" and then clear it again afterwards. Now you can click on the "Apply" or "OK" button and the "Automatically Log On" window opens.
-
The two passwords entered in the ""Automatically Log On" window are checked for parity. However, the passwords are not checked for validity. If two identical, but invalid passwords are preset, automatic logon does not work when you start the SIMATIC IPC.
-
The Auto-logon function is only available in Windows work groups. It is not possible to have automatic logon to a domain using the method described above.
-
In a SIMATIC IT environment you should make sure that in "Automatic Windows user logon" is checked in the management console under Settings --> System --> Security.
