Configuration Notes
For installing WinCC V6.0 you need Microsoft Windows Security Patches for different operating systems. These patches are located on the MS Tools CD supplied with the installation CD of SIMATIC WinCC.
As from WinCC V6.0 SP3 the Microsoft Windows security patches are located on the DVD "MS Service Packs & Tools".

Note
As from WinCC V6.2, if not already installed, the required Security Patches are installed when WinCC is installed after querying.
As from WinCC V7.0 the required Security Patches are installed automatically when WinCC is installed.

Installing the security patches

1 Read the installation requirements
  • Insert the WinCC installation CD in your computer's CD drive.
    If the Autostart function is not executed, start the application via "Start.exe".
  • Select the menu item "Read first". The WinCC Online Help opens. Read the notes under "Installation Notes > Installation Prerequisites".
  • The item "Software Requirements for Installation" provides information about which Microsoft hotfixes and security patches are necessary for installing WinCC.

Note
For subsequent operation of WinCC you should always try to keep the computer with the WinCC installation up to date, that is install the Microsoft Windows hotfixes and security patches.

2 Insert MS Tools CD or corresponding DVD
To install these patches you insert the MS Tools CD in the CD drive of your computer.
If the Autostart function is not executed, start the application via "Start.exe".
3 Select the language
In the main menu of the Setup you select the "Language Selection" item. In the "Language Selection" dialog you select the language in which the operating system is to be installed. Click the "OK" button to acknowledge the dialog.

Note
A multilanguage operating system installation is always based on an English operating system. In this case you select "English".

4 Install the security patch or hotfix
In the main menu you select the "Install Software" item.

If you are using Windows XP SP2, select the "Hotfix Windows XP SP2" item to install the KB319740.

5 Finish the installation
Finish installation of the security patch or hotfix.
You can start installing WinCC when all the requirements for installing WinCC (see Step 1) are fulfilled.
