How can real-time communication (RT) be used with standard Ethernet hardware?

Description:   
For the use of real time, communication standard Ethernet components can be used. The RT service switches to Layer 2 of the OSI/ISO-Layer model.

This solution minimizes the cycle times in the communication stack substantially. Besides, the minimized communication stack in the programmable controller, the transmission of data will also be optimized in the network with PROFINET.

In order to achieve an optimal result, the packages are prioritized according to IEEE 802.1Q . The standard Ethernet components (e.g. switches) have to support this prioritizing for the RT services according to the IEEE standard.
