Description
To face flexibly all requirements, not only the SIMATIC PCS 7 OS-Software is built up modularly but also the licensing. The activation of a license is called Authorization. The authorization takes place during the installation with a special authorization floppy disk. The authorization can also be installed afterwards by the user with the program "AuthorsW".

The previous two-step license concept was extended to five steps for better scalability. All licenses available are contained in the following table (PCS 7 OS Software packages).

In average 1 PLT patch covers (process conducting technical measuring area, e.g. engine, valve, regulation, analogue value measuring etc.):

Each of these licenses contains a storage license for 512 archive tags (except SFC-Visualization and all Client license types). The storage license can be refined on 30,000 archive tags (starting at SP1 to 80,000 archive tags). No license is needed for the storage of reports.
An appropriate license is needed for NetCC, Chip-card, User archives, StoragePlus (Add-On) and SIMATIC Logon.

Note
Starting at version 6.0 no license control will be executed for the package Basic Process Control. The license is not applicable.

An additional gradation of the licenses is carried out after the maximum of configureable process tags and archive tags. With the authorization of RC 256K PTg 512 ATag, are e.g. maximal 256000 process tags and 512 archive tags configurable.

Behavior when the authorization is missing:
WinCC runs in the demo mode when a authorization is missing.

After one hour will the configuration Software / the WinCC Explorer be closed, but the Runtime System remains active. After a restart of the Editor, you can work for 10 further minutes.

When starting the Runtime (authorization RTxxx) a receiptbinding dialog box appears which asks for the reference of the valid complete authorization. The receiptbinding report is then displayed every 10 minutes. If the message window was moved on the side, the window is displayed again in the center 30 minutes later. As long as you are in Runtime, the WinCC Explorer will not be finished. If you exit Runtime, the WinCC Explorer is also finished.

Certain options are also activated by special authorizations. If the license is missing for an option used in a project, the demo mode is automatically activated. This happens independently from the fact that other licenses are present, and always affects the complete functionality of WinCC.

If you exceed the maximal available number of process tags and archive tags in your project, a switch to the demo mode will then take place. In this case you need an authorization upgrade.

Upgrade of authorization
With the authorization upgrade, additional process tags ("energy day") and archive variables ("ArchTags") will be activated.

The number of tags is only checked in the server mode. Affected are PCs which only work as server or as server and client at the same time (one space systems). On pure clients, the maximum number of tags is always allowed with the existent license.

After an upgrade of WinCC V5 to WinCC V6, only a V6 license is available. This license is not recognized by WinCC V5.

If alternatively both licenses (WinCC V6/WinCC V5) are needed, then both can be installed on the same drive and the catalog of the not needed license can be renamed.

Database licensing
A license is required for the use of the database Microsoft SQL Server 2000. It is at your disposal after a proper installation of WinCC with license.

The SQL Server, licensed by the installation of WinCC, only may be used in connection with WinCC. The use for third party applications or the use of own databases requires an additional license.
