Delivery Release for SIMATIC S7-1200 CPU with Firmware 2.0

 SIMATIC S7-1200 firmware version 2.0 with additional functionalities and components Released for Delivery.

In addition to other new functionalities, the new CPU firmware 2.0 now integrates PROFINET controller mechanisms on the onboad RJ45 interface of a Simatic S7-1200 PLC. The Profibus master and Profibus slave communication modules also permit a connection to Profibus DP networks.  In remote areas the GPRS Communication Processor can provide a connection to mobile telephone networks.

Existing first-generation Simatic S7-1200 PLCs (S7-1211C, S7-1212C and S7-1214C) can be upgraded to the CPU firmware 2.0 without any restrictions. The necessary files including a description of the procedure to update the firmware can be found on our service and Service & Support pages Downloads.  

 

   

In addition to the existing product features, the new firmware version 2.0 together with SIMATIC STEP 7 Professional / Basic V11 (49639088) will enhance a Simatic S7-1200 CPUs with the following mechanisms and functionalities:

  • Integrated PROFINET-IO controller interface
  • Profibus DP master (via communication module)
  • Profibus DP Slave (via communication module)
  • Integrated Web server with standard websites
  • User-specific websites in the integral Web server
  • Data Logging functionality for archiving of data from the user program at runtime
  • RTM – RunTimeMeter (hour counter)
  • S7 Communication (PUT; GET; TUSEND; ...)
  • Enhanced closed-loop controller functions (3-point controller)
  • Enhanced Motion Control to PLCopen scope of functions with the MC_Commandtable to process motion commands in a tabular form

Two new communication modules are available for the connection of Simatic S7-1200 PLCs to Profibus: The Profibus DP Master Module CM 1243-5 enables the connection of up to 16 DP slaves to one Simatic S7-1200 PLC, e.g. distributed I/O modules such as Simatic ET 200. S7 and PG/OP communication to other controllers as well as HMI and programming devices is also supported . The CM 1242-5 enables a Simatic S7-1200 PLC to be applied as Profibus-DP slave and connected to any Profibus-DP master. Both communication modules are inserted to the left of the CPU and simply connected via the S7-1200 backplane bus.

The new CP 1242-7 GPRS module provides facility operators with a remote access to Simatic S7-1200 PLCs. Distributed stations equipped with Simatic S7-1200 can thus be economically and safely monitored, diagnosed, maintained and controlled. The CP 1242-7 is simply connected to the Simatic S7-1200 PLC as GPRS interface via the backplane bus of the Simatic-S7-1200 PLC and used for telecontrol.

Together with the CPU firmware 2.0, the hardware product portfolio of SIMATIC S7-1200 will be enlarged by the following hardware components:

  • Single-channel analog input Signal Board 12 Bit ± 10 V DC or 0-20 mA
  • Single-channel analog input Signal Board RTD, 16 Bit Type: Platinum (Pt)
  • Single-channel analog input Signal Board TC 16 Bit, Type: J, K, voltage range: ± 80 mV

S7-1200 Communication Board RS 485

  • The RS 485 point-to point communication interface is designed as a terminal block and permits the connection of application-specific protocols, such as USS or Modbus RTU, in addition to the integral PROFINET controller interface and the communication modules.

S7-1200 Signal Module

  • Eight-channel analog input Signal Module RTD; 16 Bit Type: Platinum (Pt), Copper (Cu), Nickel (Ni & LG-Ni), or resistor
  • Eight-channel analog input Signal Module TC; 16 Bit Type: J, K, T, E, R&S, N, C, TXK/XK(L), voltage range: ± 80 mV

  Compatibility and necessary components

STEP 7 Professional / Basic
 The SIMATIC S7-1200 family of controllers is programmed with STEP 7 Basic V10.5 and higher. Programming a SIMATIC S7-1200 CPU with older STEP 7 versions or with STEP 7-Micro/WIN is not possible. For the download of a SIMATIC S7-1200 FW 2.0 it is recommended to utilize SIMATIC STEP 7 Professional / Basic V11 (49639088). Using a SIMATIC STEP 7 Basic V10.5 together with a S7-1200 FW 2.0 there is the highly unlikely possibility of a refusal of the actual project download trough the System.
 
 SIMATIC Memory Card (NOT mandatory to operate a CPU)
 A SIMATIC Memory Card can be used to expand the CPU loading memory, to load the application software or to perform a firmware update.


 Compatibility
 The SIMATIC S7-1200 family of controllers is not compatible in software and hardware with the existing SIMATIC S7-200 family of controllers
