Description This FAQ response describes the procedure for performing a firmware update on the SIMATIC MV440 code reading system.
Requirements
- PC / PG with Ethernet interface with at least 50 Mbit/s
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1 or higher as operating system
- Internet Explorer 6.0 as from SP1 or higher
- Java Runtime Environment, see www.java.sun.com/J2SE
- The SIMATIC MV440 code reading system must be ready for operation and accessible via Ethernet
- Firmware file (MV4xxEpromImage32MB_V04.00.00_10.bin)
Determining the firmware installed on the camera system Check which firmware is currently installed on your SIMATIC camera system before making a firmware update. The details are given on the home page of the camera in the Internet Explorer (Fig. 01) or on the "Info" > "Device information" page (Fig. 02)

- If the installed firmware version is greater than or equal to V03.0.0.2, then follow the instructions given with the download in Entry ID 50368040.
- If the installed firmware version is V01.x, please contact Technical Support. It is only possible to update from V01.x to a version greater than V02.x if the firmware V02.0 is installed beforehand!
- If the installed firmware version is V02.x, then proceed as follows.
Firmware update from V2.0 to V3.0 or V4.0
- To start the update you enter the following address in your internet browser: {IP address}/binfileupdate.cgi?pwd=XX
- {IP address} is the IP address of the MV440
- XX stands for a password that is calculated from the checksum of the IP address
- Example: IP address = 192.168.0.42
pwd=33
corresponds to http://192.168.0.42/binfileupdate.cgi?pwd=33 (Fig. 03)

- Then restart the code reading system and connect up to the camera with the internet browser. The next page (Fig. 04) is now displayed

Fig. 04
- Click Update EPROM and on the next page (Fig. 05) you select the update file (typical name: MV4xxEpromImage32MB_V04.00.00_10.bin). Click "Submit" and the data is sent to the camera and the firmware is stored in the EPROM.

Warning Do not switch off the camera and do not click any buttons in the browser.
Once the data has been transferred, the camera is restarted automatically.
