Instructions:
In order to be able to evaluate values from PROFIBUS PA devices on PROFIBUS external masters (e.g. ABB or SIMATIC S5), the address areas of these devices must be known in the DP/PA Link. The GSD tool facilitates configuring in that one single GSD file is generated on the external masters from the GSD file of the IM 157 (6ES7157-0AA82/81-0XA0) or IM 153-2 High Feature (6ES7153-2BA81/82-0XB0) in the DP/PA Link and the GSD files of the PROFIBUS PA field devices. Thanks to the reduced size that the operator can control, the GSD files created with the GSD too and the dialog boxes generated from them are once again manageable in the configuration. Populating the GSD file of the IM 157/IM 153-2 with new PROFIBUS PA-GSD files is thus drastically simplified.

A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version V1.3.0 or higher that can run on all MS Windows operating systems is required to run the GSD tool (GSDTOOL.JAR). This JRE is available in the Internet free of charge. The download address is available in the readme file of the GSD tool.
The GSD files (*.gsd) of the PROFIBUS PA field devices are simply to be copied into the current directory of the GSD tool. The GSD tool then automatically creates a GSD file from these GSD files and the GSD file of the IM 157/IM 153-2 (see also the installation instructions in the readme file).

Note:
In order for the GSD tool to be able to work properly one condition must be met in the GSD files of the field devices:
the various module names used in a GSD file must differ in the first 22 characters so that the GSD tool recognizes them as different module names. If the difference between the names is only after the 22nd character, the user gets an error message and the GSD file of the field device is not processed. As user you have a simple remedy in that you open the GSD file of the field device and modify or shorten the module name concerned. The actual function of the field device is not affected by a change of module name in the GSD file.

Only the following entries are relevant for the configuration:

  • "Begin of Device" for setting the PROFIBUS address
  • Entries beginning with "==" for cyclic communication with the field devices

A detailed description of the configuration with GSD files is available in the manual "DP/PA Coupler, DP/PA Link and Y Link bus couplers", chapter 7, which is in Entry ID: 1142696.

The GSD tool is available for downloading here.

The security clearance in the attachment confirms that using the GSD tool does not change any of the data relevant for the certification of the IM 157/IM 153-2 and the PROFIBUS PA devices.
