Instructions:
There is a way of monitoring the signal quality of the Industrial Wireless LAN connection of the IWLAN/PB Link PN IO. The quality of these signals is particularly important for the PROFINET IO applications. The IWLAN/PB Link PN IO can record its radio signal level. Here we describe how to make this recording.

No. Procedure
1 The PG/PC that is to control signal recording is to have a wireless connection to the IWLAN/PB PN IO Link or be connected to the relevant access point with an Industrial Ethernet cable. Use the DOS command "telnet <IP address of the IWLAN PB Link PN IO>" to set up a connection from the PG/PC to the IWLAN/PB Link PN/IO.

Enter "inform" and then"signal" and you get to the "Record Menu" (the menu from which you can start/stop recording).

2

The following DOS commands are used to start/stop recording.

  • "recstart <Int> [Num]" - Start recording
  • "recstop" - Stop recording

3 When recording has finished, you have the option of downloading a text file via the DOS directory, which contains the most important measurements like signal % and signal to noise ratio RSSI. The FTP protocol is used for downloading. You use the following DOS commands for downloading:
  • Set up connection to the FTP server: "ftp <IP address of the IWLAN/PB Link PN IO>"
  • Enter "admin" for user and password
  • Download text file: "get signal.txt"

4 This text file can be used in the "csv" format to display the recording graphically in Excel.

The following figure shows an example of a saved text file.

5 You import the text file "signal.txt" into Excel via the menu Data -> Import external data -> Import data.

Below are possible tabular and graphical presentations in Excel of the text file "signal.txt" shown in Fig. 03.
