Instructions
There are two possible diagnostics methods:

  • Via the add-on "System diagnostics - S7-400 CPU diagnostics"
  • Via the Online View of the SIMATIC Manager

The advantage of the "System diagnostics - S7-400 CPU diagnostics" method is that you can see the diagnostics imbedded in WinCC on any OS. This means that the operating system layer of the OS still cannot be reached by the operator and a STEP 7 / PCS 7 ES does not have to be installed on the OS.

Description of "System diagnostics - S7-400 CPU diagnostics"
"System diagnostics - S7-400 CPU diagnostics" includes visualization and detailed diagnostics of S7-400 / S7-400H CPUs on an OS. The diagnostics concept can be implemented on an operator station (OS) - without access to STEP 7 - to display online the current operating status of the CPUs/H-CPUs connected. CPU diagnostics is fully configured in just three easy steps on the Engineering Station (ES) and Operator Station (OS).

No.

Procedure on the ES

1

Call diagnostics blocks in the S7 program (e.g. OB 35).

2

Export the Hardware Configuration (.cfg file).

3

Compile the OS

No.

Procedure on the OS

1

Insert the diagnostics OCX in the WinCC picture.

2

Connect the structure variable to the diagnostics control.

3

Specify the storage path of the exported HW Config file (.cfg file).

Once the connection has been set up successfully the current operating mode of the CPU/H-CPU configured is shown in the Overview. A detailed display of the current operating mode is given via the six tabs of the OCX. Any error statuses that occur are diagnosed.

"General I" tab

Fig. 1

  1. Order number (MLFB), firmware and release of the H-CPU available ONLINE.

  2. MPI address, subrack and slot.

  3. Setting of the key switch (up to CPU firmware version V3, otherwise always RUN-P).

  4. Status of the LEDs "INTF", "EXT", "RUN", "STOP", "REDF", "MSTR", "RACKx", "IFMxF" and "BUSxF".

"Diagnostics Buffer" tab

Fig. 2

This tab displays the last 20 entries (maximum) of the diagnostics buffer of the CPU/H-CPU. The detailed data of the diagnostics message is displayed in field under the entry selected.

Furthermore, you can save the displayed diagnostics buffer entries in a text file.

"Scan Cycle Time" tab

Display of the current and maximum cycle times.

"Memory" tab

Fig. 4

Display of the assigned and free work memory data.

"H-State" tab

Fig. 5

Display of the H-CPU state.

"General II" tab

Fig. 6

Display of the plant designation, comments, firmware version and order number (MLFB).

"System diagnostics - S7-400 CPU Diagnostics" offers the following advantages:

  1. No need for Engineering Software on the OS (STEP 7 / PCS 7 ES).
  2. Few, simple configuration steps.
  3. Simple transfer of changes in the Hardware Configuration - at any time and online in WinCC simple via a picture change.
  4. Direct recognition of the CPU status in the OS.
  5. Central acquisition of diagnostics data in the diagnostics buffer.
  6. WinCC-compatible display of data.
