Attachment 2 lists the licenses required for the various options and services in WinCC flexible Runtime (RT) and WinCC flexible Engineering System (ES).
Instructions: In order to transfer licenses to an operator panel with the ALM (Automation License Manager) you need a computer on which the ALM and WinCC flexible are installed.
Alternatively, it suffices to install just the ALM in conjunction with ProSave V7.2 and higher.
This combination also activates the "Connect target system" menu item.
Fig. 01
You can install the ALM as well as ProSave via the Setup menu of the WinCC flexible 2008 Installation CD. Select the relevant options in the Setup menu.
Alternatively, you can download the ALM and ProSave from the Customer Support site.
Configuration Notes: When configuring Windows-based operator panels with ProTool, only one specific version of Image of the relevant operator panel can be used, regardless of the version of ProTool.
The version specification in the name of the Image file (e.g. "MP370_V6_2.img") abstracts the version of ProTool. The exact version of the Image can be determined with ProSave or PTUpdate - see Fig. 01.

How do you backup/restore with a Windows-based panel?
Instructions There are two option for making a backup of the configuration of a Windows-based panel without having to access the source data of ProTool or WinCC flexible:
Entry ID: 58876345 includes a description of how to do a backup/restore from a Comfort Panel without SIMATIC WinCC V11.
If you want a retransfer whose file can be edited, you must use the Retransfer function in ProTool or WinCC flexible. This is only possible with panels that support this function and in which retransfer is enabled in the transfer settings. Refer to Entry ID: 21907703 to see which panels support retransfer.
1. Backup/Restore with ProSave
With ProSave you have a convenient option of central archiving even without ProTool or WinCC flexible. This provides you with a quick way of starting up again after a system failure or replacement of devices. The backed-up data is transferred to the new target device and the original status thus restored.
Entry ID: 21907703 includes in Attachment 2 a list of all the operator panels that support backup/restore with ProSave.
It is not possible to load and edit a backup file in ProTool or WinCC flexible. The file can only be reloaded to the original or another panel via a restore with ProSave.
Note
Operator panel TP070 does not support backup/restore with ProSave.
No.
Procedure
1
Preparations for Backup/Restore
Depending on the operator panel, you can use one of the following connections for a backup/restore with ProSave:
- Serial (over RS232/PPI multimaster cable) 6ES7 901-3CB30-0AX0
- Serial (over USB-PPI cable) 6ES7 901-3DB30-0XA0
- Serial (over RS232 / zero modem cable) *) 6ES7 901-1BF00-0XA0
- MPI / PROFIBUS DP
- Ethernet
- USB (host-to-host cable) information in Entry ID: 19142034
*)You can create the zero modem cable (6ES7 901-1BF00-0XA0) yourself. More information is available in Entry ID: 21401061.
Fig. 01
If you do not have ProTool or WinCC flexible, you can also download ProSave independently - see Entry ID: 10347815. ProSave allows a complete backup directly from the panel including the configuration. The backup created can then be loaded back into the original or an identical device.
Connect the PC with the panel and put it the panel in Transfer mode. If not configured, you can put the panel in this mode by switching the power off and on again. For this you must select and hold the Transfer button when you restart the panel.
Now the panel is in Transfer mode and ready for backup/restore.
If you want to make a restore, you can jump directly to Point 3 "Restore".
2
Backup
Open ProSave and select the correct panel in the "General" tab.
Fig. 02
Select the connection between the PC and the panel, serial (over RS232 / zero modem cable), for example.
Define the connection parameters, for example COM1 with a baud rate of 38400 for the serial connection.
Note:
In USB connections (host-to-host cable) and serial connections over USB-PPI cable, you cannot define additional connection parameters.
Switch to the "Backup" tab, select the path and specify a file name, "C:\panel.psb", for example. Under the "Data type" you define the type of backup to be created.
Note: The file extension ".psb" is necessary, because only this file type can be loaded for a restore.
Fig. 03
When everything is set, you trigger the backup procedure with "Start Backup".
Note: If the connection is interrupted, it might be because another software, virus scanner or power management, for example, is accessing the COM interface. Therefore, make sure that any such software is terminated before restarting.
Once the backup has been completed, the file created can now be loaded back into a device of the same type or back into the original device, as required.
3
Restore
First put your panel in Transfer mode as described in Point 1 and set up the connection to the PC.
Select the appropriate operator panel and connection type in the "General" tab - see Fig. 02.
If possible, define the connection parameters.
Switch to the "Restore" tab in ProSave.
Open your ".psb-file" and transfer the loading procedure by clicking "Start Restore".
Fig. 04
After successful transfer of data to your panel, this is now ready to be integrated in your system after startup.
Note:
The panel has exactly the same connection parameters as the panel from which the backup originates. Make sure that both panels are not in the same system, in order to avoid connection problems.
2. Backup/Restore with a memory card During saving (backup), the operating system, applications and data are copied from the internal flash memory of the operator panel to the memory card.
When you restore, the flash memory of the operator panel is deleted after a prompt. Then the data backed up on the memory card is copied to the internal flash memory.

Description
Through the introduction of different new operator panels and configuration software, only specific versions of the software can be used to configure the operator panels.
Configuration of the operator panels also depends on the edition of the Engineering Software. For example, the MP377 can be configured as from WinCC flexible 2008 and only with the Standard or Advanced edition of WinCC flexible.
Fig. 01
Configuration Notes When creating a project or changing the type of operator panel in WinCC flexible 2005 and higher, you can specify the default (current) version of the operator panel (specify the version of the operator panel).
By way of example, Fig. 02 shows an MP370 Touch version 7.1.0.0 selected for WinCC flexible 2005.
Fig. 02
Attachment 1 lists the associated versions for WinCC flexible.
The table is designed to help you identify the versions used and thus avoid version conflicts.
Notes
The following notes also apply for older versions of WinCC flexible.
Generator, Runtime and Simulation in WinCC flexible 2008 can only be started if the new operator panel versions are set for WinCC flexible 2008.
Please refer to the relevant manual for how to read out the version of your operator panel.
If you use WinCC flexible 2008 to open an older project that was last saved in WinCC flexible 2007, the operator panel version is automatically changed to the current version. Information on an update of the operator panel or a PC station is available in Entry ID: 19701610.

How to Backup and restore a program on a text or graphic-based panel?
Instructions: Many times there is a need to back up a program as a user may not have access to the source code. This procedure will provide a step by step instruction on how to perform the backup/restore on a RMOS based panel.
Note:
OP3 and C7-621 will not allow a Backup or Restore.
It is NOT possible to use an backup data file in the ProTool software because the backup configuration file is not editable. The backup file is used only to restore the backup configuration to a like panel.
No.
Procedure
1
Preparation for Backup/Restore
Use needs the following cable 6XV1440-2KH32 or you can build your own from the following link: 21923977.
Please download (if needed) and install the following tool which is called Prosave onto your PC. Prosave allows a user to make a backup copy of an OP program for the purpose of loading into another unit of the EXACT same part number The link for Prosave is : 10347815.
Once the configuration cable is verified and Prosave software installed on the PC, the user is ready to place the panel into transfer mode. Please turn power off to the panel and press the ESC and UP arrow keys at the same time. With these keys pressed, turn the power back on and wait three seconds before releasing these two keys.
This will place the panel into Transfer mode. The screen of the HMI should reference that is is “ready for transfer” or show that it is in “trans mode”.
Note:
To place a TP27 or TP37 into transfer mode, please press the serial transfer button upon boot-up of the Touch Panel units.
2
Backup
Next, open the Prosave program that was installed on the PC and choose the correct panel from the General tab menu in the device type field.
You'll also have to use COM1 or COM2, so make sure your PC ports are using one of these mappings and choose 38.4K as a Baud Rate.
Finally, go to the tab called Backup and choose a path to store the file. Use the following file name: C:\panel.psr You also would want to select a complete backup or other options from the data type tab menu in Prosave.
Note: The extension is important as you will be required to browse for a .psr file when restoring the configuration to the new panel.
Click the Start Backup button and the backup will begin. It could take 5 - 10 minutes.
Note:
Please verify if other programs like Virus Scanners, Power management, or PLC software "poll" the COM port. In this case, Prosave possibly will release the connection. Before you start again with the Backup, make sure that these programs have quit their service.
Once it is successfully finished, you should get a backup successful message and you are ready to load the file into the new panel. This completes the procedure of backing up the project. The next steps will guide you through the restore process.
3
Restore:
You'll need to make sure the panel is in Transfer mode as in Step 1 above before you can Restore the connection.
Once it is in Transfer mode, you can go to the Restore tab and browse for the panel.psr file (or whatever you name it). Once open you can click the Restore button and the program should begin programming the panel.
Upon a successful transfer of the program from Prosave to the panel, the panel should boot into your user program and is ready for installation.
Note: The Panel will have exactly the same connection parameters, like the panel from which the backup was made. Make sure that both panels are not in the same system, to avoide connection problems between the panel and the connected controller.

What settings do you have to make on an MP 377 to reset the operator panel to the factory settings?
QUESTION:
What should you watch out for when making a standalone installation
of ProSave V6.0 SP2 when ProSave V6.0 SP2 is installed on the PC as
the first SIMATIC software?
ANSWER:
If you make a standalone installation of ProSave V6.0 SP2 as the
first SIMATIC software on your PC, in the installation setup you
are asked only for a path for shared files of the SIMATIC software
and not for a path for ProSave.
The ProSave path is not offered for selection, because it is
defined in the subfolder "PTProSave"
(C:\Siemens\Common\PTProSave).
The default path setting is "C:\Siemens\Common" and this
setting should also be retained, because this path is valid for the
shared files of all SIMATIC software packages.
If, for example, ProTool or STEP 7 are to be installed later on
this PC, the shared files of the relevant SIMATIC software are
likewise stored in this folder.
