Instructions: "System diagnostics - PROFINET I/O device diagnostics" permits visualization and detailed diagnostics of PROFINET I/O devices. This diagnostics concept can be implemented on any Operator Station.
PROFINET I/O device diagnostics is fully configured in just three easy steps on the Engineering Station (ES) and Operator Station (OS).
|
No. |
Procedure on the ES |
|
1 |
Call diagnostics blocks in the S7 program (e.g. OB 35). |
|
2 |
Export the Hardware Configuration (.cfg file). |
|
3 |
Compile the OS |
|
No. |
Procedure on the OS |
|
1 |
Insert the diagnostics OCX in the WinCC picture. |
|
2 |
Connect the structure variable to the diagnostics control. |
|
3 |
Specify the storage path of the exported HW Config file (.cfg file). |
After calling ActiveX Control the current operating mode of the devices configured and any error statuses that have occurred are displayed in the Overview.
| Overview
  Fig. 1
|
The following functionalities are provided in the Overview of ActiveX Control:
- Display of all the devices of the PROFINET I/O system concerned.
- Visualization of the "Designation" and "Comment" fields from the Hardware Configuration.
- Display of failed devices with clear signal identification.
- Automatic display of all devices on the I/O system on which there is diagnostics/failure.
- Display of the PROFINET name and network name from the STEP 7 Hardware Configuration.
Click on a device to have more detailed information shown. |
| Detailed view - modules
  Fig. 2
|
The detailed view provides you with the necessary information about an individual device via the "General" and "Status" tabs. For example:
- Station failure.
- Failure display and detailed information about the cause of failure.
- Display of the "Designation" and "Comment" fields from the STEP 7 Hardware Configuration.
- Order number (MLFB), station address, slot, module type.
The "Modules" tab (Fig. 2) shows all the modules slotted in an ET200S. A defective module is marked in red. Click on a module to call channel diagnostics. |
| Detailed view - channels
  Fig. 3
|
The defective channels are marked red in the channel diagnostics dialog and a description of the error is given (e.g. "wire break").
In addition this dialog provides module-specific information like:
- Input/output address of the module.
- Order number (MLFB) and module type
- Author and comment

| PROFINET I/O tab - Diagnostics Buffer
  Fig. 4
|
Here is another example of the diagnostics potential of the system diagnostics.
If you click the PROFINET I/O segment in the Overview, four tabs are shown with additional diagnostics functions. The diagnostics buffer is shown in Fig. 4. This buffers the errors that have occurred per device and thus provides an error history. When you select an error event, detailed information on that error is displayed in the field below. The module/submodule that triggered the diagnostics message is named. |
Function overview:
- Online diagnostics is independent of Engineering Tools
- Visualization of all the PROFINET I/O objects (incl. slaves after the IE/PB link).
- Display of device failure and fault.
- Display of all failed devices and signaling of the diagnostics information available in an overview.
- Option for detailed diagnostics (e.g. channel monitoring in ET200S).
- Diagnostics buffer that provides an error history and event counter and buffers the errors that occur for each device.
