Instructions:
Important note when using Microsoft's automatic update service in PCS 7.
The automatic update service must be disabled with SIMATIC PCS 7!
If the update service is enabled, there is a danger that new software packages, service packs, hotfixes etc. will be installed by Windows components, which under certain circumstances might cause problems with PCS 7 if the constellation has not yet been tested and officially released.
New packages issued by Microsoft should only be installed after thorough testing for compatibility (e.g. with reference to the PCS 7 Release Notes).
Option 1 for disabling:
You can disable the automatic update service if necessary in the Control Panel by double-clicking on the "Automatic Updates" icon and deselecting the relevant option.
Option 2 for disabling:
By disabling the "Automatic Updates" service under:
- "Computer Management > Services and Applications > Services" or
- "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administration > Services > "Automatic Updates"
Note:
The SIMATIC Rack PC IL 40 S was supplied for a time with "Restore" Images in which the Microsoft automatic update service is enabled. You must disable this after a "Restore".
You must make special arrangements for the following system configurations:

Central software update server for office and system networks
If you are using a common SUS for your office network and the PCS 7 system network, which automatically receives the updates from the Microsoft servers and automatically distributes these to the PCs in the office and PCS 7 system networks, you must make sure that the PCS 7 system PCs do not receive these software updates! |

Automatic update service enabled on the PCS 7 system PCs upon access to the Internet
If your PCS 7 system PCs have a direct Internet access and the automatic update service is started on these PCs, then please disable the automatic update service or make sure that the PCS 7 system PCs do not have a direct Internet access! |
Therefore we recommend that either you install the Microsoft Security Patches manually or you assign the updates to the various networks via a dedicated software update server.
Note: In the case of the PC bundles released for PCS 7 V6.1 in the ST PCS 7 catalog, the automatic update service is disabled by default for security reasons. Please note that this automatic update service is switched on in most other PCs!
